Bhagavan’s journey into acting began with the Hirannaiah Mitra Mandali theatre group. In 1956, he assisted renowned Kannada film writer Kanagal Prabhakara Shastry on the film Bhagyodaya. His co-direction debut came in 1967 with Rajadurgada Rahasya, alongside A. C. Narasimha Murthy.
His most significant achievement was forming the successful directorial duo “Dorai-Bhagavan” with B. Dorairaj. This partnership yielded numerous blockbuster Kannada films.
